Final Logo Designs

In general, my intention was to design logos for a hypothetical sea slug themed restaurant. The logos came out kind of "bubbly", for lack of a better term, because the sea slug is very colorful and blobby, and the cartoonish vibe was already part of my established style before taking this class. Overall, I feel like I should have paid more attention to color rather than just shape.

Since my designs are dark, they'll probably get sucked into the background of my blog. So I'll link them back to here from my deviantART page.

Here we go again...

I can only hope the next version I upload of this is the finished version. Logos to come soon too... I hope...

So I've settled on an idea. Sort of.

After doing some brainstorming, I settled on making a sea slug themed seafood restaurant. Creative, right? I bet at least one other person in this class is doing the same thing, except with their respective invertebrate. Anyway, here are possibly the last of my hand roughs unless random inspiration strikes me for this project.

I hate how the anatomy is inconsistent between the two images. I only got the idea to draw the one on the bottom right in the middle of drawing the tail... blob... things... on the first one. I'll probably write something more meaningful when it's not quarter 'til 2 in the morning.

Logo Research, part 2

After typing "slug logos" into Google images, here are some of the results:

However, upon typing the more precise "sea slug logos" into Google images, this was pretty much the only relevant result:

Poor guys. They don't get much love in the world of logo designing.

Text Roughs

After sifting through numerous fonts (many of which basically looked the same to me), I settled on these 8 different options and traced them:

I think I might go with the third one (if I can remember what that font was called...) and modify the segments of each letter to match the color scheme of the slug in my logo.

The Road to Inspiration

Art block is one thing, but being distracted with my personal brainfarts is another. Trying to get back into focus on the logo designs, I've been turning to the internet for inspiration.

20 Best Logos With Hidden Meaning - Honestly, some of these logo designs were unfamiliar to me, but from the ones I had seen before, I had to have it pointed out to me from elsewhere to notice the hidden messages in them.

50 Best Creative Logo Designs from 2010 - I can't say I've ever seen these designs anywhere else, but there were some that I found pretty clever and well-done, while others went over my head.

Here's a site I think will be a useful resource in general for logo inspiration.

Of course, while there are the good logo designs and the bad logo designs, there are the ones that just make you wonder what the designer was thinking. Honestly, with that subtext, I wouldn't be surprised if they work or have worked for Disney. But why do I bother with those designs in the first place? Well, sometimes my ideas are also influenced by what not to do.

More sketches for assignment #3

Actual concept still in progress... hopefully I'll come up with something brilliant over the weekend!

Assignment #3

For this project, we had to take our invertebrate from assignment #2 and design logos out of it. Here are 3 (very) rough sketches.

I'm not sure if any of my final logo designs will look anything like these sketches, but at the very least I wanted to get practice drawing sea slugs. They're not what I'm used to drawing, but I think they're growing on me.

The third one really didn't come out like I'd hoped, but I liked the first two enough to make higher resolution versions available:

Getting there...

Here's an update on my sea slug from the second assignment. I think I'm almost done.

Assignment #2

For this project, we had to choose an invertebrate, so I chose the sea slug. No, not that Sea Slug. This one:

I took the last image and am in the process of trying to replicate it in Illustrator. So far, um...
